Toxic Green Palythoa
Bold, bright, and impossible to miss — the Toxic Green Palythoa is a reef classic that earns its name with an almost radioactive neon green coloration that absolutely blazes under blue and actinic lighting. These large-polyped Palys are one of the most visually impactful corals you can add to a reef tank, creating a lush, carpet-like effect as they spread across rockwork.
Palythoa are closely related to Zoanthids but tend to grow larger polyps and spread more aggressively, making them excellent for filling in rock faces and creating dramatic color fields. Note: Like all Palythoa, handle with care — they contain palytoxin and should be handled with gloves and eye protection.
Care Requirements
- Lighting: Low to moderate (50–150 PAR)
- Flow: Low to moderate, indirect
- Placement: Lower to mid rockwork or sandbed
- Feeding: Photosynthetic; will benefit from broadcast feeding
- Difficulty: Beginner-friendly — very hardy
- ⚠️ Safety: Contains palytoxin — always handle with gloves and avoid contact with eyes or open wounds
