Fat Head Dendro

Fat Head Dendrophyllia (NPS Coral)

The Fat Head Dendrophyllia is a breathtaking Non-Photosynthetic (NPS) LPS coral that defies the typical reef setup — it doesn't need light to thrive, making it a fascinating and rewarding challenge for dedicated reef keepers. Known for its large, fleshy, brilliantly colored polyps that bloom like underwater flowers, the Fat Head Dendro is a showpiece coral that rewards attentive care with stunning displays of color and movement.

Unlike most corals, Dendrophyllia rely entirely on direct feeding for their nutrition. When fed regularly, their polyps extend fully and display rich hues of orange, red, and yellow that are simply unmatched in the reef world. Watching a Fat Head Dendro open up at feeding time is one of the most rewarding experiences in the hobby.

Care Requirements

• Lighting: None required — NPS coral, keep away from intense light
• Flow: Low to moderate, gentle indirect flow

• Feeding: Required — target feed 3–5x per week with meaty foods (mysis, chopped silversides, reef roids)

Important: This coral is Non-Photosynthetic and will not survive without regular target feeding. It is not recommended for hands-off reef setups.
